The Magic Wood

I think of this place on Raasay as my magic wood. The first time I visited for a walk recommended by a friend, I knew I had to come back to paint here one autumn. It didn't disappoint. You can't beat silver birch saplings covered in lichen in the dappled sunshine, with golden leaves gently falling around you. The path leads you into the scene, and eventually down to the sea.
