The Thaw

SOLD

Oil on 30x30cm (12x12") panel, mounted and framed.

Unfortunately, the snow doesn’t usually last long in Edinburgh, so I was keen to return to one of my favourite scenes to paint the new snowfall before it disappeared. Here I sat beneath the tree, beside the pond, in my local park. I challenged myself to capture the melting ice on the surface of the water and the reflections still visible through it.
As it was beginning to thaw, the snow also started to drip on my painting and I had to construct a makeshift canopy in the branches for protection!
